“The important achievement of Apollo was demonstrating that humanity is not forever chained to this planet and our visions go rather further than that.” That’s Neil Armstrong, commander of Apollo 11, describing the program that put him on the lunar surface in the summer of 1969. His is just one of the voices heard in Voices from the Moon. Andrew Chaikin conducted in-depth interviews with 23 of the 24 Apollo lunar astronauts; their reminiscences—many never before published—are carefully woven into a narrative that reflects the entire arc of the lunar journey. Accompanying their insights are 160 images from NASA’s new high-resolution scans of the photographs the authors took during the missions—many rarely, if ever, seen by the general public.
Voices from the Moon offers a unique take on our lunar adventure—courtesy of those who were fortunate enough to take part.

It has taken the great historian of the Apollo age, Andrew Chaikin, to give us the rest of the poetry. Along with wonderful images, (most new even to lunatics), are the words! Andy and Vickie have distilled dozens of hours of interviews to a careful selection that finally captures the feelings, uncovers the poetry, illuminates the interiors of these circumspect men. Other editors may have gone for the glurge and made this a soup-for-the-soul cut-paste mess. But Chaikin and Kohl have given us the hearts of these intelligent, professional explorers. For the big story, read and reread Andy's "A Man on the Moon", which reads like a great novel. For revisiting your Apollo dreams and creating new ones, for haunting images both photographic and literary, get "Voices From the Moon"
