Gordon Bell is one of the world's preeeminent computer scientists and a principal researcher at
Microsoft. He spent 23 years at Digital Equipment Corporation as vice president of research and development, where he was in charge of the VAX, DEC's most successful computer. Bell has been involved in, or responsible for, the design of many products at Digital, Encore, Ardent, and a score of other companies, and has worked on the design of about 30 multiprocessors. He established the ACM Gordon Bell Prize in 1987 to encourage development in parallel processing.
